Olea europaea
Olive oil is a liquid fat obtained from olives (the fruit of Olea europaea; family Oleaceae), a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin. The oil is produced by pressing whole olives. The composition of olive oil varies with the cultivar, altitude, time of harvest and extraction process. It consists mainly of oleic acid (up to 83%), with smaller amounts of other fatty acids including linoleic acid (up to 21%) and palmitic acid (up to 20%). Olive Oil adds shine, body, softness and resilience to hair. This is because its primary chemical elements are the oleic acid, palmitic acid and squalene. These are all emollients, which means they have softening qualities. Olive oil is a great for suffocating head lice and assists to remove the lice and eggs by allowing the lice comb to glide through the hair.
