Founder Nigel Russell, developed the first Holistic Hair® products in 2006. Working as a Hair Stylist in his own salon, Nigel became increasingly aware of the growing number of clients suffering from sensitivities to synthetic chemicals or general scalp complaints. These clients were unable to find safe & effective solutions. With a strong belief in the power of natural remedies, particularly Aromatherapy, and a qualification in Trichology, Nigel set out to create a range of products that would provide the relief and results his clients were looking for.
Including the word Holistic in the brand name represents a core value and philosophy for the company which underpins every aspect of the branding and product development. Holistic Hair® believe in the holistic concept where effective hair care should consider the symbiotic relationship of both inner health to outer beauty.
In keeping with the holistic philosophy the brand has always focused on natural ingredients. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the harm that certain ingredients pose to their health and are seeking the safest and most effective products. Plant ingredients are in turn receiving increased attention from research and science organisations, who are investigating the positive health benefits and providing evidence of this through scientific studies. Holistic Hair® give priority to plant-based ingredients, from renewable resources, that are biodegradable and not harmful in terms of health and environmental safety .
Substantiation of product safety and claims is very much under scrutiny today. Holistic Hair® are a member of the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association of New Zealand, an organisation who expect members to uphold ethical standards & compliance with all relevant legislation. In creating specialist hair care products it is a requirement to ensure the safety of a product before it goes to market. Holistic Hair® have processes in place to ensure every ingredient is checked for safety against the databases of key regulatory organisations responsible for cosmetic ingredients internationally.
Todays consumer is both health & conservation conscious. In line with this all Holistic Hair® products are created with the intention to improve wellbeing and all packaging is kept to a minimum, including the use of recyclable, sustainable materials and biodegradable BPA free plastics. Partners and suppliers to the brand must uphold Holistic Hair® values in traceability of ingredients and sourcing with ethical practices.
In 2015 a new management team was elected and a re-brand was commissioned. A new logo and new packaging, were the first steps in the brand evolution. The range now includes cleansing, conditioning, extra care and styling products. The focus is natural, premium and most importantly, functionally effective.
The company holds a vision to pioneer and lead both holistic and natural hair care, a place in the market that is truly unique and one that connects the brand to a growing market of health & conservation conscious consumers.
New products are being launched, featuring innovative new ingredients, aimed at resolving consumer’s scalp & hair care needs. Holistic Hair® will focus on innovation underpinned with science and scientific evidence to meet emerging needs and provide a further point of difference from competitors in the market.
