ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF JUICE
Aloe Vera belongs to the Liliaceal family. This cactus-like plant grows well in hot, dry climates. Cosmetic products are made from the mucilaginous tissue in the centre of the Aloe Vera leaf termed Aloe Vera gel. The peripheral bundle sheath cells of Aloe Vera produce an intensely bitter, yellow latex, commonly termed Aloe juice, sap or aloes. Aloe Vera contains 75 potentially active constituents: vitamins, enzymes, minerals, sugars, lignin, saponins, salicylic acids, and amino acids. Rich in proteolytic enzymes, Aloe Vera acts to reduce dead skin cells on the scalp, prevents itching, inhibits dandruff and supports normal hair growth. Aloe Vera is an effective, light-weight scalp and hair conditioner with wonderful shine enhancing properties. A chemical structure similar to that of keratin, Aloe Vera is rejuvenating for the hair, helping to improve elasticity and reduce breakage. Its alkalising properties can help return the scalp and hair’s pH to a normal level. The clinical use of Aloe Vera is supported largely by anecdotal data.
